Christmas Books for Kids: Christmas is almost upon us and I’m already being overwhelmed with
messages demands from my nieces and nephews as to what gifts they want this year.
I’m figuring it’s time to educate these little munchkins on what Christmas is really about.
It’s time to go shopping for Christmas books for kids that teach the meaning of the holiday.
I want, I want, I want!
Some people have a nickname for Christmas. They call it the ‘gimme’ season; ‘gimme a Furby’, ‘gimme a skateboard’, ‘gimme some other super cool and ridiculously expensive gift… pretty please’.
While I love shopping for gifts, attending my fair share of Christmas parties and stuffing my face with copious amounts of food, I’m also aware that the true meaning of Christmas is lost on our little ones (and sometimes even on us big ones).
Christmas isn’t just about unwrapping presents, eating good food and looking at the pretty decorations, but that’s the message that we unintentionally send to our kids.
We get lost in the excitement of it all and the meaning of Christmas gets swallowed up.
Trust me, I’m just as guilty of this myself.
And that’s where Christmas books for kids come in handy. They can act as a reminder of what Christmas is really all about.
Christmas books come in several different formats and are really easy to find and buy.
If you want your children to understand that Christmas is not just about material possessions, start the practice of sharing Christmas related stories after dinner every night or even as a bedtime story.
You can snuggle up under the blankets together and teach them holiday priorities that will last a lifetime.
Which Christmas Books for Kids Should You Consider?
A great book to start with is The Night Before Christmas!
It’s an enchanting Christmas poem that’s beautifully illustrated and a pleasure to read. It’s been a family tradition for so many households over the years and it will set the tone of Christmas in your home.
You can easily purchase this book from most retail shops or online stores that carry Christmas products, such as Amazon.com.
There are Christian Christmas books for kids, such as A Christmas Story that will share the story of the birth of Jesus Christ, through inspiring text and beautiful pictures.
And what child doesn’t laugh out loud and beg for more when his or her parents read a story about How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
So, what are the best Christmas books for kids that teach the meaning of the holiday?
They’re the books that teach children about the value of giving and being thankful for even the small things in life. The Miracle in a Shoe Box is a perfect example of such a book.
Look for fun books that teach about the origins of Christmas and the peaceful day that it started out as.
Find books that promote Christmas as a day to be grateful for family. Christmas should not be a selfish time. It’s not about the ‘gimmes’, it’s about truly being there for others.
Also, consider books that teach how Christmas is celebrated all over the world.
Remember, children are natural born learners. They soak up information like sponges.
If we teach them that Christmas is only about having a perfectly decorated Christmas tree, with perfectly wrapped Christmas gifts underneath, there’s the possibility that they’ll learn the wrong lessons.
So take some time out this year to look for Christmas books for kids that will show them the real meaning of this very special holiday.
